What to expect
Your first session
A first session is a conversation, not a test. It lasts 50 minutes.
- 01
Step 1: Before you come
You get your fee in writing and a link to the intake forms on our own portal. Please don't send medical details through this website.
- 02
Step 2: The first conversation
You say what you want from therapy and what you would rather leave alone for now. Dr. Guerra asks about your history, at the pace you choose.
- 03
Step 3: How we would work
She explains EMDR and the other methods, what they ask of you and what they can stir up. She also explains what stays private and what does not, and then you decide.
- 04
Step 4: What this visit is not
No hard memory is processed in the first session. If you decide to go on, getting ready for EMDR comes first.
- 05
Step 5: Before you leave
We take time to settle, agree on a next step and answer your questions about fees and cancellation.
Questions
About the first session
01Do I have to talk about everything?
No. You decide what to share, and when. Many first sessions are about what you want from therapy and how the room works.
02Is there anything to prepare?
Nothing special. If you are coming in person, tell us if anything would make the visit easier. For video, a private spot and headphones help.
03Can I bring someone with me?
You can ask. Dr. Guerra will talk with you about whether it would help the work before the visit.
